Therapy of cancer by insect cells containing recombinant baculovirus encoding genes
Provided are compositions and methods of use for insect cells comprising baculovirus encoding non-surface expressed proteins and peptides. The claimed invention particularly relates to compositions comprising insect cells containing baculovirus that express cytokines. Such compositions may be administered by, for example, direct intratumoral injection into tumors in mammals, resulting in tumor reduction or recission. Another aspect of the claimed invention concerns methods of promoting resistance to the reoccurence of tumors in mammals who have undergone such tumor recission. AIDing Contraception: HIV and Recent Trends in Abortion Rates
Since the onset of HIV/AIDS awareness in the early 1980s, much attention has centered around the substantial negative effects of the disease throughout the world. This paper provides evidence of a secondary effect the disease has had on sexual behavior in the United States. Using a difference-in-differences estimation framework and state level data, we show that the perceived threat of HIV resulted in a drop in unwanted pregnancies, as demonstrated by a lower incidence of abortions. Our results suggest that each additional reported case of HIV per 1,000 individuals resulted in 85.5 fewer abortions per 1,000 live births.
DeepICP: An End-to-End Deep Neural Network for 3D Point Cloud Registration
We present DeepICP - a novel end-to-end learning-based 3D point cloud
registration framework that achieves comparable registration accuracy to prior
state-of-the-art geometric methods. Different from other keypoint based methods
where a RANSAC procedure is usually needed, we implement the use of various
deep neural network structures to establish an end-to-end trainable network.
Our keypoint detector is trained through this end-to-end structure and enables
the system to avoid the inference of dynamic objects, leverages the help of
sufficiently salient features on stationary objects, and as a result, achieves
high robustness. Rather than searching the corresponding points among existing
points, the key contribution is that we innovatively generate them based on
learned matching probabilities among a group of candidates, which can boost the
registration accuracy. Our loss function incorporates both the local similarity
and the global geometric constraints to ensure all above network designs can
converge towards the right direction. We comprehensively validate the
effectiveness of our approach using both the KITTI dataset and the
Apollo-SouthBay dataset. Results demonstrate that our method achieves
comparable or better performance than the state-of-the-art geometry-based
methods. Detailed ablation and visualization analysis are included to further
illustrate the behavior and insights of our network. The low registration error
and high robustness of our method makes it attractive for substantial

The impact of organizational stigmatization on the operational risk and performance of overseas subsidiaries: empirical evidence from Chinese multinational enterprises
This study used the global database of events, language, and
tone of international public opinion big data to measure organizational
stigmatization against China. It then used an econometric
model to investigate the impact of organizational stigmatization
on the operational risk and performance of overseas subsidiaries
of Chinese multinational enterprises. The results show that: (1)
organizational stigmatization increases overseas subsidiaries’ operational
risk and reduces their operational performance, which is
more evident in overseas subsidiaries of state-owned enterprises;
(2) the host country’s political stability weakens the organizational
stigmatization’s positive impact on overseas subsidiaries’ operational
risk. The geographical distance between the home and
host countries strengthens organizational stigmatization’s positive
impact on overseas subsidiaries’ operational risk; (3) the host
country’s political stability and the geographical distance between
the home and host countries have no moderating effect on
organizational stigmatization and overseas subsidiaries’ operational
performance; and (4) organizational stigmatization by the
host country reduces overseas subsidiaries’ operational performance
via the channel of operational risk. This study innovates the
measurement method of organizational stigmatization and lays
the foundation for investigating the microeconomic impact of
organizational stigmatization from the perspective of overseas
subsidiaries
